The concept of being financially independent and religious sometimes becomes a conflict in our minds. We wonder if it is Godly to be wealthy and worry whether we are giving enough at worship services to meet the “tithe” requirements set by certain religious leaders.
While the words of an evangelist can be persuasive, the bottom line is that you need to support yourself and God expects you to do that. It seems speculative and almost like gambling if you think that giving your last dollar will get you five more. In fact, it is not in accordance with God’s desires because you are giving with the intention of receiving, thus negating the good intention.
Rather, don’t spend God’s money – because everything on earth is really is – unwisely or foolishly. Before you purchase something, consider whether you need it or it is merely an indulgence. Vicarious spending can keep you from attaining financial freedom.
Don’t be shy to get debt help. If your debts exceed you ability to pay them, remember that neither a borrower nor lender be. Work to pay off your debts and then avoid spending more than you make. Once you get used to this, you will even be able to save so you can share some of your newfound wealth with those less fortunate.
To become financially independent, you have to really consider the words of God and your faith rather than to listen to an evangelist who is trying to take in as much money as possible. Take care of your own finances so you can then give freely to whichever causes you choose. By sharing your wealth, you can never be too rich.
