Financial independence is the goal we all seek to attain and women seem to be particularly interested in learning financial skills to improve their security and plan for the years ahead. Many Generation X women, born between the years 1961 and 1981, were not taught financial planning skills in their youth and are now scurrying to find resources to help them form a get out of debt plan and become financially free in their futures.

Because of the growing interest women have shown in learning about financial freedom and how to get it, there are many seminars being offered to teach women basic money skills. Seminars such as “Wise-Up – Financial Planning for Gen X Women” at the Women’s Resource Center are being offered to help women to seriously think about their long term financial situations and improve their financial skills.

The director of the Women’s Resource Center, Jill Dunlap, feels it is essential for women to be educated about their finances, stating, “I think it’s important because women don’t get taught from their families about planning for financial futures…It’s important women know this on their own, instead of having people do it for them.”

Women looking for financial independence through self-sufficiency should explore the myriad of seminars offered to teach basic skills about how to manage money.
