A noble reason for achieving financial independence is the ability to give to others once your basic needs have been met. No greater pleasure exists than the opportunity to help support another person who just needs a hand to become financially independent now.
Recently Brooke Astor, often referred to as the “First Lady” of New York, passed away at the age of 105. Astor was famous for giving away the John Jacob Astor fortune to needy causes and stated, “Money is like manure; it should be spread around.”
Achieving financial independence gives you the rare change to share the wealth with other people still trying to get it right. While most of us will not have the 195 million dollars that Brooke gave to charity, we can certainly give what we are able to generate in extra cash through multiple streams of income such as passive income and residual income.
Consider another inspiring statement made by Brooke Astor. “Power, for me, is the ability to do good things for others. I have the means to do it, thanks to Vincent’s money [Astor husband], and the act of giving makes me powerful inside. I would tell anyone, if you have enough money for three meals a day and you’re not too busy, you ought to do something for others.”
No reward is greater than achieving a degree of financial freedom where you can afford to give money or time to help others in need and give them hope for their future.
